Northern Endurance Partnership Hosts Inaugural CCS Networks Industry Best Practice Forum

In late 2025, the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) hosted the inaugural CCS Networks Industry Best Practice Forum at its Darlington headquarters.

The event brought together the architects and stakeholders of the UK’s CCS Network Code, the commercial, operational, and technical arrangements that govern interactions between transport and storage companies (T&S companies) and Users, to share best practice and support the effective development and operation of existing and future CO₂ transport and storage networks.

The forum, which will meet annually, featured speakers from NEP, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), the Carbon Capture and Storage Association (CCSA), Liverpool Bay CCS and Heidelberg Materials.

Reflecting on the day, Neal Gray-Wannell, Network Developer at NEP, said:

“The forum reflected years of sector-wide groundwork behind the CCS Network Code and the need for ongoing collaboration between DESNZ, Ofgem, and industry as the Code evolves and scales. Our discussions highlighted the value of open dialogue and early engagement as we develop the Code from its initial version – designed to reduce risk for early projects – into versions that reflect a more mature market. This forum will remain an invaluable way for our industry to collaborate, improve, and ultimately build a robust, efficient, commercially viable CO₂ transport and storage network to meet the UK’s climate goals.”

As the UK’s first CO₂ transport and storage infrastructure network, NEP has played a key role in both developing and implementing the Code. NEP representatives have actively contributed to the Code’s modification panel, helping shape the industry’s foundational principles.
